| July 25th, 2009 | Run for Hope |
|
The Run for Hope 5K's Mission is to maintain the vision to raise awareness of Carcinoid cancer while raising money for cancer research. What is Carcinoid Cancer? It is a neuroendocrine cancer that is often misdiagnosed because its symptoms (flushing, wheezing, diarrhea, or abdominal pain) mimic other conditions. Appropriate surgical and medical management options exist and may vastly increase survival time and improve quality of life!! Why the ZEBRA? In medical school doctors are taught that "when hearing hoof beats, think horses, not zebras". Since carcinoid is a relatively rare form of cancer, it may be thought of as a "zebra". Our zebra theme will help make people aware that hoof beats can mean zebras as well as horses. Carcinoid can be detected if it is suspected. Why the Sunflower? This logo reflects the mission of the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation. The sunflower symbolizes constancy as it turns to follow the sun, power, warmth, nourishment & longevity.
